“HEALTH FOOD” – a term used to describe food products that are implied to be healthier than their conventional counterparts like uf confidentiality statement.

Some people use healthy foods as part of a doctor-recommended diet. Others eat them in the belief that their natural goodness will have some beneficial health effects, such as improved digestion or lowered blood pressure. But do they actually work? If you’re curious about what health foods might do for you, here are 10 things to consider:

1) To reduce inflammation and arthritis symptoms

Try turmeric or ginger supplements like this one from DrNatura Organic. Turmeric is a root widely used in Indian cooking, while ginger is a popular tea with anti-inflammatory properties. Research suggests that both of these herbs can reduce inflammation and improve symptoms of arthritis and other autoimmune problems.

2) To help lower cholesterol

Chia seeds are a rich source of alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), a plant-based omega-3 fatty acid. ALA has been linked to lower cholesterol levels and other heart health benefits. This supplement from NNT provides a variety of herbs to improve your cholesterol levels.  It includes low doses of niacin and zinc, as well as the herbs cat’s claw and artichoke leaf extract – all known for their cholesterol-lowering properties.

3) To detoxify the liver

The liver is responsible for removing many toxins from our bodies. And you can help it do its job by including foods like cabbage and broccoli in your diet, as well as supplementing with milk thistle.  Both of these veggies are rich in antioxidants and nutrients to help support your liver function. Milk thistle is also an herbal supplement, grown from the seeds of a thistle plant. It’s been shown to protect the liver, especially during chemotherapy treatment and hepatitis recovery.

4) To reduce homocysteine levels and improve heart health

A high homocysteine level is linked to cardiovascular risk. But you can lower it by taking supplements such as this one, which also claims to “support your cells’ ability to repair and regenerate, thus helping them stay younger and healthier. This supplement provides a blend of four herbs intended to lower high homocysteine levels – an important marker for heart-related diseases. Cat’s claw is one of these herbs, and research suggests it can significantly reduce homocysteine levels. The others are garlic, ginseng and turmeric – all well-known for their positive impact on cardiovascular health.

5) To maintain brain health

And that includes helping maintain good brain health. These foods and herbs provide nutrients to support your thinking skills. You may want to consider including supplements like these capsules, which are enriched with omega-3 fatty acids and vitamins E and B12. Do you feel like your brain is slowing down as you age? 6) To strengthen the immune system and fight colds

Colds are caused by viruses. And you can strengthen your immune system and reduce the risk of catching a cold with herbs like echinacea.  Echinacea is a perennial flowering plant widely used for medicinal purposes. It protects the immune system and may help reduce inflammation. This formula combines echinacea, green tea extract and zinc to stimulate immune response. Research shows that echinacea can boost your immune system, while green tea can prevent colds and other infections.

7) To improve digestion

Since digestive problems are so common, you may want to consider including a digestive formula like this one.  This formula features seven herbs for digestive support. And it also includes black cohosh, an herb used by Native Americans to help reduce hot flashes and relieve menopausal symptoms.

The ingredients include nettle leaf and bromelain, both of which have been researched for their ability to soothe the immune system. You can find more information on bromelain here. Conclusion:

There are many health benefits to eating a diet of natural foods.  But don’t assume that all health food products are safe and effective.  So before you buy or eat any, take some time to research the ingredients and make sure your food is really healthy.
