A sci-fi movie is a genre that has its roots in science fiction. It usually tells the story about people placed in futuristic environments, who are faced with dangers and challenges of this world.

While it can be recognized as an alien invasion film, which is technically referred to as SF (science fiction), the distinction between what constitutes “sci-fi” or even “alien invasion” can be blurred, which leaves us with lots of movies that are simply labeled ‘sci-fi’.

Here at https://crunchtimenews.com/ has some more best movies for sci-fi lovers.

There are tons of movies that fall into this category. If you’re looking for a recommendation for one type of science-fiction movie to watch next weekend, here’s what we’ve got.

Here are some top sci-fi movies of all time.

1. The Matrix

This sci-fi film is one of the best movies to watch in the genre, which was released in 1999. It has almost everything to offer to a sci-fi lover including stunning visual effects, an award winning cast and a unique story line.

The movie tells the story about Thomas A. Anderson, an average computer programmer who is also known as Neo, played by Keanu Reeves . He begins to realize that his life isn’t what it seems to be after meeting Morpheus, played by Laurence Fishburne .

Neo realizes that he is actually living inside a computer created by sentient machines called “The Matrix”, which happens to be an elaborate conspiracy.

However, Morpheus is different from the rest. He has been taken hostage by one of the few remaining humans, who are desperately trying to break

2. The Matrix Reloaded

This is the sequel to The Matrix, released in 2003. The movie deals with the inevitable confrontation between Neo and his captor, as well as how he deals with his supernatural powers.

Unlike its predecessor, this movie deals more with the philosophical questions of human existence and reality. If you’re a sci-fi fan, you’ll definitely want to check this one out.

3. The Sixth Sense

This is perhaps the best American film of all time and has been viewed as one of the best movies ever made since its release in 1999.

The movie tells the story of Cole Sear, a troubled child with the ability to see and talk to ghosts. He is played by Haley Joel Osment as a young boy as well as Bruce Willis as an adult.

The twist in the movie is that it is revealed towards the end that Cole may not be so insane after all and actually sees dead people.

4. Contact

Jodie Foster plays Dr Eleanor Arroway, an astrophysicist and radio astronomer who finds conclusive proof of extraterrestrial life when she intercepts a micro signal from another galaxy fourteen billion years away.

She is accused of fraud and fired, though she continues to research the message, hoping to make contact with the other galaxy. Written by Dr. Carl Sagan.

5. The Thing

This is perhaps one of the best horror movies ever made that also happens to be an excellent sci-fi film (though not strictly one that fits into this category).

The movie follows MacReady, played by Kurt Russell , as he investigates an alien artifact discovered under an Antarctic ice sheet which kills all those who it comes in contact with.

While he initially suspects a research station worker played by Mary Elizabeth Winstead, it’s revealed later on in the movie that there’s something far more terrifying at work here than any man has ever seen before.

6. Star Wars

This is perhaps the most popular film series in history. It has spawned three sequels (The Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens), one prequel (The Phantom Menace) and three spinoffs (Rogue One, The Clone Wars and Rebels). It’s easy to understand why this has done so well.

The first film was released in 1977 and became an instant hit with audiences worldwide.

The story tells of an interstellar rebellion against the tyrannical Galactic Empire, which is led by Darth Vader. This movie is one that you just won’t want to miss out on.

7. The Lord of the Rings

This is perhaps one of the best fantasy films of all time. The movie tells the story of Frodo Baggins, who is entrusted with the One Ring by his cousin Bilbo Baggins.

He sets out to destroy The One Ring, an ancient power that has corrupted the Earth’s leaders, but soon finds himself hunted by Dark Lord Sauron along with a fellowship of 13 dwarves and Gandalf the Grey, played by Ian McKellen.

8. District 9

This is another movie that explores themes that are still relevant today. The movie follows Wikus Van De Merwe, an employee of a multinational company that has been given the task of settling to a space station in Johannesburg.

When he arrives, he finds that all but one person aboard are aliens. The aliens’ presence turns out to be more than just a routine relocation as they reveal the truth about the situation and their intentions to take over the planet.
