The study found that peer-to-peer messaging resulted in increased compliance with medical advice and treatment protocols due to less stigma attached to seeking health care information among friends and family than from doctors or pharmaceutical companies.

In fact, 36% of the patients who used social media for this purpose said that they did this because they felt more confident about the accuracy of their searches and the reliability of the information presented. 


This means that companies using social media to market their products and services can reach out to a large audience which is highly educated about their health issues.
