I’ve never been a vegetarian but I’ve definitely been one of those people that never eats meat…until I got pregnant. I was a vegetarian for a while then I lost my appetite for meat, and then I realized I was pregnant and it was a huge event. I was so excited to feed my baby and try to be more aware of the environment, so I did a lot of research. One thing that has been a big part of my vegetarian journey is my commitment to eating local food.

Ive always had a weakness for a good curry, so it was a natural progression for me to become a vegetarian. I live in a small town in the North of NSW and I noticed that the closest curry shops are all a few hours drive away from my house. While I was in my late 20s, I was already getting really sick of eating meat and I began to see the benefits of becoming a vegetarian.

I was able to convince my family to join me in my vegetarian journey after we decided that our family would be a vegetarian for the rest of our lives. Even though we were still eating meat, we had a healthier diet and were able to live longer.

I never thought I would be able to convince my family that I was a vegetarian. I used to have a “meat and potatoes” diet. I was vegetarian for a year or more and then changed to a “vegan diet” or “vegetarian diet.” It never occurred to me that I could convince my family that I was a vegetarian when I just started eating meat, though.

That is to say that as a vegetarian with a meat and potato diet, you are still going to die (assuming you don’t have a heart attack at the exact moment you stop eating meat). You also might not even have a chance at living past a certain age. There is some variation depending on how much meat you eat. Some vegetarians, for example, die younger after eating vegetarian diets. Some vegetarians seem to live longer after eating a vegetarian diet.

I am the type of person who will organize my entire home (including closets) based on what I need for vacation. Making sure that all vital supplies are in one place, even if it means putting them into a carry-on and checking out early from work so as not to miss any flights!
